Default 1990 5.0L Mustange Power Steering leak.

Hiya Guys,

I have a 90' Mustang, it was the first car I ever drove. It has 119k miles on it. It sat a my folks house for years while I was away at school.

My uncle who was 65 bought it to fix it up, he had throat cancer and the docs recomended something to do as hobby that would take time. Sadly he lost his battle about 2 years ago.

He and my dad replaced the power steering rack and pinon unit with a brand new unit from a speed shop.

They both have a history with cars, they replaced the unit and things where fine for 2 years.

Now, it's dripping fuild from the ends of the rubber boots REALLY badly. They are both just FULL of fuild. The pump makes a strange hissing and gruggling noise when the fuild gets low.

Can they be repaired, or do I have to as the Car-X guy told me, replace the entire unit?

well one thing you can do is put fluid in it first and rotate the wheels a few times with the engine running, see if u see any metal shavings in the fluid, that might indicate that it ran dry and needs replacing
