Default Post A/C Removal Help

Hey guys! Alright, I pulled out ALL of my A/C garbage, but now I have this belt length issue. Right now I'm running an 85", but I can't use the belt tensioner because the pressure from the belt tensioner pushes the belt down onto the fan pulley. I drove it around without the belt tensioner being used because the belt is tight on the pullies--just not tensioner tight. I suspect part of my problem might be the BBK Underdrives I'm running? 84.5" didn't fit, I already tried that. I'm kinda at a loss as to what to do? Run without the tensioner? Change some pulley sizes? I don't know! Thanks.
Paul

Have you measured to see exactly what length belt you need yet? Also, are you still using the smog pump? It's been a while since I've taken a look at an HO that hasn't had all the accessories pulled of it, but I'll see what I can do about finding out some more info for you tonight.

Hey thanks, dude. She also developed a RETCHED squeal from the belt tihs morning. It only does it when accelerating out of a corner at about 1900 RPMs then stops. I also have another question. What do I do about the vacuum line hole on the tree behind the manifold? Leave it open, or close it off? Because right now it's open, and I can hear that thing just sucking in tons of air. Thanks.
Paul
P.S. Measured it... Difficult to get an accurate measurement. 85.5" was too big... 84.5" was too small. So I have an 85" on there now. Seems to work without the belt tensioner, but squeals, probably because it's not tight.

I have a 88 5.0 I took of the smog pump & ac. I also have underdrives on the water pump and crank. I ended up having to buy the ford motorsports ac elminator kit prt# m8511a50 also off-road idler bracket ,in place off the smog pump. prt# m8604a50. I cant remember what the belt prt# is but I will look and let you know, if you want me to. I had a hard time getting the exact belt . I eneded buying about 5 different sizes belts and taking back what I didnt use. Oh yeah I also did still use the factory belt tensionor. If you dont use it you will not ever get the belt tight. You would have to go with a different alternator bracket. Hope this helps let me know!

On mine. if you take off the tensioner pulley, there is a small circle that pokes through to lock in place , then you bolt it in. The owner before me took the liberty of cutting that circle shap off so it is completely flat. The difference is there is more room for the bracket to go down and put more tension since the compressor is out of the loop.

Kinda weird and drastic but that's what was done.

I also pulled off my smog and A/C ?? Have no clue on how to get a belt back on

I have bought the FMS A/C aliminator Bracket to see if that helps by moving the PS Pump up higher. Havn't Tried this and still dont know what size belt to use with the FMS part.

Kinda of werid there isn't more documentation .. there has to be tons of stangers out there who have done this.. ?

Hey man, yeah, you have to get the eliminator kit. I got the one that just puts a free spinning pulley in place of the A/C. I didn't want to hassle with moving the power steering. As for belt size, I'm not sure about which one you need once you relocate your P/S... I know if you get the one that just places a pulley where the A/C used to be, you just use the stock length. Good luck!

The a/c eliminator that relocates the p/s pump is the way to go for a smooth looking engine compartment. I recommend Ford's a/c eliminator bracket. Finding the right size belt can be a pain because of differences in pulley diameters. Ford recommends a 84.5 inch belt for a 5 speed. I had to have a 76.5. I still have my smog pump hooked up.

86StangLX...Plug the A/C hole on the vacuum tree or run it back to your heater control panel so you can control def to vent..etc
