Default E303 cam problems.

I recently installed an E303 cam at it idles like the stock cam. I have heard three other cars with this cam and they have a wicked lopey idle. I was also told that indexing the timing chain (lower crank spocket) retarding the cam two degrees or even four degrees max will make this cam have the lopey effect. I realize setting the cam retarded two or four degrees will loose low end torque, but I have the gears and power adders to compensate for this. Did I install the cam wrong?

Please break down your question:
Is the E303 cam installed in a stock engine?
What rocker arm ratio are you running?
Do you know if the other 2 engine's have aluminum heads and aftermarket upper and lower intake?
I don't think you installed it wrong but maybe the combination is not the same. Frank

Default E303 cam problems

I have an Edelbrock upper and lower intake, 70 mm T/B, 24 lb injectors with calibrated mass air, BBK Cold Air, MAC Prochamber H pipe, 2 chamber flowmasters, #3.73 gears, 50 shot NOS, stock headers, stock heads and rockers, stock bottom end. The other cars do have JBA 1 5/8 headers and mild porting to the stock heads. What do you think about me retarding or even advancing my cam? If I do that, do you move the lower sprocket (there are seven different key combos on the sprocket...0, 2r, 4r, 2a, 4a, etc...) or the whole crank. Thanks

Thanks for the break down. Your stock heads with stock headers and rocker arms will not compliment the modifications performed on your engine. You opened up the top half for more air flow, larger injectors for more fuel volume which is all good but your trying to get this package past some restrictive areas that being the stock heads, etc. If you can try and get some aluminum heads for better flow and performance. I know they are expensive but it will round out your recipe alot better and make the camshaft work for you instead of against you.
As for camshaft placement I would install it straight up first (0) and see how that feels Frank.

Thank you for the info! There are a set of E7TE CNC ported Power Heads that are fully ported and polished and a set of JBA 1 5/8 headers for sale from one of my friends in the club. Is this a good combo to go with? I am sure those heads will outflow mine, but will they work well with my setup now? Thanks again for the help!

That will work fine, anything is better than the stock heads.
