Hi I was just curious if there was a way to tell if thebthrottle body is going to be a whistler before you put it on. Ive been buying parts for an engine I'm building and one of them is the SSI and when I get this motor done it could be over a year which would void the bbk warranty. Do you guys know? Or should I just not worry about it and when I do get it together and its a whistler or not I should just repair it myself?
I recently rebuilt my engine and upgraded to a 75mm Summit throttle body. It made a high pitch noise, but after a week or so, it got quieter and most of the time makes no noise at all. It was a loud whistle though even with the hood closed.
does any one have the 78mm bbk throttle body and phelum combo. mine makes a whistle sound when you rev up, i was wondering if it was normal. i also have a steeda spacer. does it cause a problem
I used to manufacture billet throttle bodies mainly for imports, it is definaltely a small passage that is making the whistle (think of it...try to whistle with your mouth wide open...you cant).
I dont have any after market TB to inspect but it sounds like there is a passage or alot of the aftermarket TB's I have noticed do not have the flatest mating surfaces...wherever it may be with the part that it mounts to.
The TB's I used to make were all Billet....like from a 4 x 4 chunk of aluminum, not cast and then machined.
I was actually thinking about making some for the 5.0...but lotta comp out there.
Could be an oversized gasket, Idle Air leak(tiny) not enough to make the car rev up and down....or burs are a *****...Im surprised too...deburring is so important, especially in TB's.
Here's a video of my car (before I owned it) after the previous owner had installed a TB spacer, it made quite a racket, but I resolved this by snugging up the bolts for the throttle body itself which seemed to work their way loose from heating up and cooling down. This is a stock TB by the way. Heres a vid!
i have to same issue with my bbk 75 mm thanks for the post
also another ? is this thing adjustable so i can dial it in because i don't see where it would turn after i losened the 2 screws
I had a bbk and it whine and would stick real bad I tried adjusting the screw for the stick issue but I think it was just garbage spent a couple extra bucks and went accufab and have no issues at all nice piece
I am glad you posted this i have been looking all over my car checking everything thinking my intake pipe was sucking air or something i am going to check mine tomorrow
