Default What to do about Trans ?

Ok got the official word today. You may have seen my post about the TV cable coming out of the throttle body and the car not starting. Well had two mechanic look at her today and both same about the same thing. The 1 and 2 gears are stuck together and the car is in overdrive. So do I rebuild the AOD, beefed up this time or buy a C-4 or C-6 off the web and lose over drive but have better trans. If I do go C-4 or C-6 what other thing have to be changed ( computer, shifter and other things )

6 speed manual transmission I believe.. Do you want to manual again??? My suggestion is if your tired of crappy manual transmissions then build yourself a beefy c-4.. That thing will hold on whatever you throw at it.

All you'll have to change is the transmission and the shifter, and I guess rather obviously, the torque converter. The transmission crossmember needs to be modified slightly, but that's no biggie. Takes 5 minutes to do that part. I recommend checking out http://www.performanceautomatic.com

Don't waste your money on the heavy C6. Unless you're planning on running outlaw oneday, you'll never make enough power to kill a properly built C4.

I like my AOD, with the speeds that I drive, the OD saves a ton of gas

md1,

A close friend of mine who is a mechanic at a Mustang speed shop had his AOD rebuilt and then put in a Lenctech valvebody, and that thing hauled you know what. That thing snaps your neck through each shift. And he's running on a 400+ HP engine. I would definitely look into that option.

Default different ?

If I go C-4 from PA what is the different between the PA26101 and PA26102. If I just go with a C-4 do I need to buy a new bell housing and flex plate? New shift I wanted one any way ho also what is a good size stall for a stock now cam and a little biger cam later that only see street duty?

Yea, you'll need a new bellhousing. The bell housing on an AOD is non-removable You can reuse your flex plate from the AOD. They make 2 different bell housings for a C4...you want a big bell housing if you're using the 164-tooth (AOD) flex plate. I believe PA's bell housing is designed to accomodate either flex plate size. PA uses uprgraded valve bodies in their transmissions, so no need for a shift kit. For your setup, I'd go with something that'll stall around 2600 - 2800 rpm for now. That might be big enough for you to get away with later on when you install a little bigger cam as well.

The 26102 is the pan fill whereas the 26101 is the case fill version. Basically, the only real difference is where the oil filler tube goes in. I'd go ahead and go with the case fill incase you decide to get real serious and go with a bigger trans. pan down the road.

Absolutely only do this if you can afford to lose overdrive. With 4.10's, I'm turning 3500 rpm @ 65 mph.

Also, I'm already assuming you've got a good size trans cooler on your car. If not, get one. I'll never run any automatic without one.

I'm using a B&M Pro-Stick for mine. The only others I would consider using are the Cheetah SCS and Winters, which are both identical. The Cheetah and Winters are better quality shifters, but I was in a hurry and the local speedshop was missing the shifter cable for the Winters so I got the B&M. Glad I did...after I've gotten used to it I'm 100% sure I'd rather have that than the Cheetah/Winters.

If you check out the newest MM&FF and look inside of Erica Lugo's car...she's running the B&M Pro Stick also.
