Question Installing 3.73 gear for under $500? in San Diego?

Is it possible to have a rear-end gear installed for less than $500? I can buy the gear from summit for $155 (with discount)...

I am looking for a San Diego mechanic/shop that does a quality job.

I got a quote from Pro Gear which charged $800+ including bearings!!!!
JBA quoted at $360 labor plus parts(read: $550+)
and the guy at West coast transmission will do it for $270 labor plus parts, but it didn't seem like the guy had done very many rear-ends... only differentials and trannies.

Is $500 unreasonable?

Thanks!

That's ridiculously high if you ask me. I wouldnt pay more than $300. It's not labor intense, it's just tool specific.

I paid $200 in labor for mine. I paid $187 for gears, friction modifier, and 23 tooth gear. Then I had to buy a master bearing kit from the shop for $110. It cost just under $500 total.
