Default How compatible are body parts from an 1985 Mustang for a 1987 Mustang?

My 87 GT hatchback is starting to really get some serious rust. The last quote I got to repaint it was around $5000, so I'm looking for a cheap body to swap my drivetrain into (or some cheap body parts to bolt onto my existing rustbucket). I found an '85 for sale (dunno if it's GT or LX, hatch, notch or what), and am wondering how compatible the body parts would be. Can I keep my GT ground effects? Are the fenders the same? Doors? Thanks in advance for any advice.

your front facia will not be compatible with the '85 fenders but you should be able to bolt on parts from the '87 to the '85 relatively painlessly.

as far i i knew, they were identical. except the facia, the rear windows, interior, and engine differences. ive seen plenty of people update the facia of a early 80 mustang to the 87-93 style. and if you replace the rear windows with the later foxs, you cant tell the difference. id say go for it. if you cant use the parts off of it. (which i think you should be able to) then you could do the drivetrain swap.
