Scott,
Sounds like you will have a good street motor there. My only recommendation is to take your time!! Read lots of books if you are not familiar with the inner workings of an engine. This can relieve a lot of frustration. Good luck!!

also, do not trust your memory for torque settings, even though I have almost all of them memorized for a 302, I always have a book open to double check

Get a degree wheel and degree that cam in - also check the cam events against the cam card. Call Comp Cams and tell them your combination and ask for any recommendations about installing the cam advanced, retarded, or straight up.

ok first off thanx for all the good advice
2nd off this ISNT my first rebuild
but just my first where im "crew chief" this will be my 6th v8 rebuild
but the first without my uncle ken (who passed away last january)looking over my shoulder
motor came out of the car last night with no complications at all
i got it all tore down today.....blocks scruubed off and has a fresh coat of ford blue on it
im gonna hone it tomorow now this is one of things im not 110% on
i just want to slide the hone up and down in the cyl lubricated with a little kero till i have a nice crosshatch and thats it right?
like 60' crosshatch?
hit the top edges of the cyls with a file so the rings dont catch right?

oh yeah and i wanted to askk everybody their opinion on porting the intake a little bit..............

i was gonna hit the lower with the grinder.......
the heads im gonna use have been professionally ported and opened to gasket size.....
right now i cant afford another intake so im gonna use the stocker........
would it be worth my time to open the lower to gasket size or damn close?
polish up into the runners ?or leave the somewhat rough?

i know heads u want to leave the intakes semi-rough to help atomization but fuel doesnt flow thru the intake far enuff right?
so im thinking mirror finish......

thanx scott

I would open it up to the gasket size, straighten and raise the runners a bit. It will help and make a major difference. I too an running a stock ported lower right now until I upgrade to aluminum heads at the end of the year. The 5.0 is a pretty easy motor to work on, take your time and triple check everything. Make sure everything is within spec..

Good Luck
Steve

take your time and use lots of plastiguage!!!!!!!!.check those tolerances. sometimes the machine shop gets a little squirlly,so check the clearances with the plastiguage and dont forget to clean it off afterwards. other than that everything sounds like its in hand. good luck! i too will be building my next engine and it will be my 40th from my home.cant wait, its like expecting a child.........and coming up with alittle terror
