I need to replace my right inside tie rod. I am trying to remember from 20 years ago, but does that rod have a pin you must remove or break off to remove that rod. I noticed today I have a good 1 inch of wheel movement before the steering wheel moves. I have not removed the boot yet to make sure it is the rod and not the steering gear but the other side is tight. Anyone have a repair manual with pictures. Thanks
the coder pin is what goes through the castle nut. which is what holds the nut from spinning loose. thats the nut that is holding the outter tie-rod to the spindle. while you have your car lifted, face the wheel and move it from right to left. if you see the inner tie-rod moving, (excessivly) its your inner tie rods and or rack, but if the ball joint on the outer is moving, then get some out tie rods.

I think he's asking if there's a pin, where the inner attaches to the rack.
I don't know, myself.

I took it apart and yes being that my car has the original rods it did have a pin that must be driven out or the best method is to over power it with two wrenchs and twist. I thought it did but it has been years. What a big difference a new inner tie rod makes.
