Default 1965 Mustang Engine Swap to 5.0 HO. Need Some Help.

Heylo all, im new here but hardly new to mustangs. I own a 1965 ford mustang and im looking to do an engine swap. Now i have my eye on a Mark 7 i found in the junkyard, its a LSC 5.0 HO. I believe its a 91, fuel injected obviously. What i need to know is what i exactly need to convert the engine from that car to my car. Electronic wise, computers and such. Any help would be appreciated.:thumbsup

Well, I haven't done the swap you're looking at, but I do have an '88 Volvo 760 Ti into which I put an '88 speed density 5.0 Ford V8 with an upgraded '91 AOD. It's my sleeper.

To be legal (EPA), you have to include a transmission used in the model year of the donor engine. It doesn't have to be the same year, just the same as one used that year. I am using a '91 AOD with an '88 engine because the AOD was used from before '88 to after '91 behind HO 5.0's.

All engine and pollution controls on the donor engine need to be installed into the receiving chassis. The donor engine computer, engine wiring harness, electric fuel pump, and probably an MIL dash light for OBD1 faults needs to be there. Compare radiators and see what pressure they run at. I think 5.0s run 14 PSI. I don't know what the '65 ran at but you don't want to blow out the heater core by using too high a PSI in the radiator cap.

Pay attention to weight issues. My recollection of '65s is they were heavy in front and light in the rear. Putting the battery in the trunk is a good idea. Struts and springs may need to be beefed up.

Good luck.
