Default Widest Rear Weld Draglites and New Tires?

I love my 90' LX Hatch 5.0 5spd. It runs real strong with my current mods, but those stock 10 hole rims gotta go!!
I really love Weld Draglites, and I wanna run the Widest tire on the rear possible and I'm thinkin' I'll go with 15x8s. I'm just not sure of the backspace I need or tire size.
My buddy has Draglites on his 85' Notch with 295/50R15s on 15x8 rims. His car is a 4cyl conversion and I'm sure he isn't running quadshocks. It would be cool if I could run this with my car, just removed the quadshocks and put a set of Traction action lift bars.
Anyone's help would be appreciated..
And of course if you have pics of these rims on your stang, that would be great too.
thanks
-Marc-

I have a 88' LX Hatch 5.0 and had 15x3-1/2 on the front ,15x8 weld Draglites on the rear. The only issue I had was when the car twisted the inside of the fender would cut the outside of the tire, so I rolled the inside of the fender up and had no more problems and they looked geat. If 295/50R15s fits your friends car they should fit yours. What rear-end do you have under your car?

My rear is an 8.8 w/ 3.73s. What backspacing do you have? Do they come close to your tailpipes?

I have 15X8 welds with 275/50/15 ET street radials. I had to beat the hell out of the inner fenders and have no quad shocks. Not sure but I think I have 5.5 back spacing. They have about a 11 inch foot print on the ground, very nice!
