how much psi could a stock 5.0 handle. i am loking for an entry level supercharger with about 6psi. i found a paxton novi 1000, a powerdyne supercharger, and a vortech supercharger. these are all under $2000. i am wondering which will be most reliable. i can always modify it so it can make more boost. all of them are able to go up to 20psi. i got all these prices off of www.joeblowracing.com
that just dont sound right most of your 6psi only are 6psi now your 8psi usely go up to about 14psi like the T trim vort usely you have to get a biger charger to go over 10 and personly i like the Prochargers thay run a lot cooler and usely give you more horse power for the same bost and i have two friends that run them on race cars though one has had one for about 3years now other is only about a year old and no probs yet and thay race ever chance thay get hehe one chevy and one mustang hehe so there allways at it:thumbsup
realy its your choice but on a stock block stock heads and maby just a intake i would just spend the 600& on a ZEX Nig set up and put a 50hp shot on it but get the adjustable set up to were you can go up over a `100hp thats about the safest Nos set up i seen simply becuse its only active when at full throttle and only after you arm it and computer controled but thats just me hehe
Long as you Use it Respectfuly you will not have a pob witha 50shot and 50 hp on a perty much stock block is a lot off your eta
There really is no supercharger on the market that is "the best".
Experts will all argue that the S/Cs that they have is the best, some like the Whipple, some Turbine, some Screw... it really just depends on YOUR preference.
What side of the car do you want it on?
Do you want to have to move things?
Do you want to install another pulley system onto your crank? Or Run a larger serpentine belt?
Questions like that are what you need to ask yourself: then just check the market.
As far as how much boost you can put into a stock engine, with stock internals, off of the stock bore and stroke?
Not sure, but I wouldn't push more than 15-16 PSI (with a good balancing and tune). But, that is just MY answer, it's not backed up by any relative fact.
I met a Notchback owner throwing about 12 PSI through his engine and asked him how much can you run on a stock engine? He replied that he wouldn't run over 12.

I wouldn't run more than 7 PSI on the stock motor.

Not true. I have the base model 6 psi unit from Vortech. According to their website, you can increase the boost to 20 PSI on the supercharger unit. I have a smaller pulley with mine, running between 13 and 15 PSI. Before, I was running 7 psi on the completely STOCK Vortech supercharger system. That was with the Vortech FMU (now I have a digital FMU) and no tune. I also WAS using a 190 LPH fuel pump, and 24# injectors. You should consider the extra fuel requirements before supercharging. Some brands (Paxton I think) advertise that upgrading your fuel system is not required. I don't believe that crap. I guess if you are only running 5-6 PSI, but you run a risk of breaking something
Here are some prices for base model systems from Summit. I have bought from them many times, and their service is second to none. JoeBlowRacing has the same standard prices you see with most systems, except they charge 79 bucks shipping. Summit only charges 10 bucks to ship unlimited items. Check AFM classifieds for the fuel upgrades you need (fuel pump, injectors). Maybe you can find a good deal. I am selling a 190 LPH pump (my old one: check the classified if interested). Any way, here are your links:

So, you're saying that off of a S/C kit that says it will only push 7 PSI ... you can adjust it to over 17 PSI?
How, exactly, would you do that? How did YOU do that? And, how can I do that?

Yes you can. You use a smaller SC pulley, a larger crank SC pulley, or a combination of the two (called a renegade setup). Go to Vortech's website and look at the PSI ratings of the supercharger units. Even the base model V1 S-Trim can go up to 20 PSI. The SYSTEM is sold at 5-6 psi. The system can be upgraded. You also need more fuel for more boost.
I have an aftermarket FMU, 42# injectors, 255 lph fuel pump, high flow fuel rails, and a 14 psi SC pulley.
HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU HAVE STANDARD V1 OR UPGRADED WHAT ELSE OTHER THAN PULLY WOULD CHANGE ONE V1 FROM ANOTHER THANKS I RUN 10# HAVE ANDERSON PWER PIPE AND TFS STAGE 3 HEADSWOULD YOU SAY I HAVE REG.V1 WHAT PULLY DO YOU RUN TO GET 12# ANDDO YOU HAVE POWE PIPE
A stock 5.0 should not be pushed further than 12# of boost w/ out an innercooler. The lower end is rated for 400hp. I bought my system from JEGS for $1800. (Vortech sc-trim) If you buy the bypass valve kit (8# and higher) and 6 3/4 crank pulley (standard if you have an underdrive system) you will be pushing around 10-12#. Then send all the extra parts back youll get a sweet set up for around $1800. I paid $2380 total and sent back $650 worth the items. I then used the extra $ for 255 fuel pump 50# fuel injectors and 80mm mass air. YOu dont have to buy these items if you use the supplied FMU.
