Default Main bearings and piston rings.

I'm having a TF Street Heat H/C/I kit installed and my mechanic suggested that while he had the top half of the motor torn off it would be a good idea to replace the main bearings and piston rings since after he's done I might find my foot depressing the gas pedal a little more frequently.

Now, the main bearings come in sets of 5. Is 1 set enough? Also I noticed there is different groove types, 1/2, 3/4, and Full groove. Which groove type should I get or will any type work?

The piston rings are confusing me a little bit more. There are lots of different sizes and I need to know what size for stock pistons.

It's being worked on right now and it's gonna be costly but for around $100 he figured it might save me some money down the road if we can prevent any oil issues now. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

Why not measure the bearings and see if they need replacement? But he is right, its cheap insurance.

A leakdown/compression test before tearing the motor apart would have helped you to make a choice on the rings (as far as doing them goes.)

1 set of main bearings is enough. There are only 5 main bearings. Maybe you are thinging the connecting rod bearings as well?

Sorry, I dont know about the groove type. The bearings I have used in the past always had one groove.?

Anyone think this is necessary? The motor only has 50k on it. It's costing me a large chunk of change to have the H/C/I installed and if the engine needs it I will do the bearings and piston rings but, at this point if I can keep the cash for this extra procedure in my pocket I would like to do so. Trying to find out if it's necessary or if the mechanic is trying to squeeze some more coin outta me.
