Default pilot bearing

i have just about completed the 4cyl to 8 cyl conver. The problem is i have no clue what pilot bearing or bushing to use.the car is done & ready to roll. i have a 5speed from a 88turbo coupe. I have bought 2 bearing so far, the stock 302 bearing and a stock turbo coupe bearing. mustang bearing has to much slack and the t-bird bearing is too small for the crank. Does anyone know what size i need? Help

If you swapped a 302 in the car then a stock 302 bearing should work just fine. What V8 engine did you get? 302? 351? Did you build the engine and upgraded the crank, pistons etc.? If so, then you need to ask the place where you got the parts from. Even so, I don't think they would mess with the diameter of the hole for the pilot bearing.

You might have to see if the parts place will let you try to find one that fits, I know it's out there. Or maybe call a place which deals with transmissions and Fords, they might know. Or you could get a V8 input shaft.

The engine is completely stock from a merc. 302. The slack i speak of is where the input shaft enters. I figured with so many people doing the conversion the same way as i have, somebody would have an idea the parts stores in this area aren't that helpful. i had to drive an hour away to pep boys for a twenty dollar part. local places didn't have a clue what i wanted an ajustable fuel regulator for,"since it is a 92".

damn auto parts people! I've had the same problem. Even if Ihave the part with me and show it to them they go like "WTF is that? Hey man, take a look at this! Do you know what this is? Oh... uummm no, what is it?" And they go on an on with me trying to explain. Anyway, sorry I got confused as to where the slack was. Just measure the dimension of the hole in the crank and also the pilot shaft. I guess it would help if you have a rod or something that is about the same size as the shaft and you can take that and the 302 bearing (if you still have it) and show it to them.

If you're using the TC tranny, U need a pilot bearing from a mid 80's diesel ranger. P/N BCA 202S is what I used for the same swap. It has the proper ID for the 4 pot T5 input shaft, and the proper OD for a small Ford crank.

gotta thank you 5speedgt,but i just bought one from some guy in north GA. on ebay--but if it doesn't work I'm glad someone actually had the P/N....thank you. 8950lx,i checked every single page(won't lie)not every post, but i didn't see a word of it in there.i was very close to buying a v8 input shaft. but i'm doing al of this on less than a shoe string budget,---3 cars worth of parts, sell the rest, build a carbed 302---so far at last count, less than $1800. in it.

Question how tight is to tight

With this being my first time dealing with all this pilot bearing stuff, i need to know how tight should the bearing be when it goes onto the input shaft, the one i have seems very tight without even applying pressure. i was given a p/n bca202s-the local autozone ,advanceauto ,and pep boys say no such number, what store can i get it at.?
