Hi everyone, I drive a 1991 5.0 LX. Yesterday I went to start my car, and the battery was dead. I had it jumped and the battery gauge read low all the way home. I went and bought a brand new battery afterwards, and everything was ok the rest of the day. This morning I went to start my car and the new battery was dead again. The gauge was still reading low after I put the new battery in. I need to know whats causing this, I need my car to get to school. Thanks for the help.

If you live near a Sears or an Autozone, you can have the alternator tested inside the car, but a bench test (as GhostDog suggested) is a better test if you have the time to take it out. It could also be a drain.

simple way to test it: jump your car and let it run for a while. shut it down and UNPLUG the alternator till the next day. plug it back in and then start the car. if it starts, your alternator is bum.
