So im ready to buy the long block 306 to start my project, my question is... i can buy it now and leave it in the shed (its not just a shed... more of a shop) - and add on the parts to the engine as i can afford them (headers, intake U/L, pumps, etc) - or i can not get the engine, save up till i can afford it all and buy everything at once, or i can buy all the parts and then get the engine later... What do you all recommend...? Thanks.
If you want to get a good idea of what everything looks like from start to finish , aside from installing pistons and the extreme bottom end, check out my heads cam intake swap guide.
Well thanks for the install pics and stuff that will be a great help whenever the time comes, but i still dont know what to do with the process before... i dunno im guessing ill just buy all the parts and do the install once i have them all... thanks tho - the install will be a great guide when i get to it -
Great guide. it will definitly help me when i start my project. I was wondering in the section where you describe bolting on the rockers, i have been reading a lot of articles saying you must make sure there is zero valve backlash. Is this a necessary step? if so , how do you do this? and is there any other specific measuremets that must be made when intalling the rockers.
Also, im looking at the afr 165 and dont know if i should get pedestal or stud. Which one is easier to work with?
