Default Disc Brake Conversion questions

Helloooo.
As you all know i am in the process ive building up my car for some heavy abuse. One area i will definately be addressing is of course the terrible stock brake setup on our beloved foxy ladies.

i was leaning toward the cobra conversion (a hefty 2 grand, i know) and suddenly started drawing back, realizing the ammount of money i would be spending on the whole system (wheels would have to change..)

then i realized that the size of the front rotors would place my mustang of course in a modified class if i ever wanted to road race... not a big deal, but a concern none the less.

i have been looking around and have found the stainless brakes rear disk kit for the fox, and so i pose this question: is the rear disk upgrade (while retaining stock 4 lug setup) enough of a brake upgrade to make this car safe? its considerably less expensive (only 700 bucks).

what possible upgrades could i do to the stock FRONT setup to increase safety further, while keeping the brake ticket under $1000?

thanks fellas, you guys are always the greatest.
have a safe and fun holiday weekend (long one for me )
DONT DRINK AND DRIVE.

im also in the process of doing a brake conversion, and while driving the SN95s GTs they brake alot better than my car. especially the 99-04 GTs and V6 . so i decided to just do the rears now, (stock 94-04 GT) then later do the fronts with the 99-04 V6 GT pbr front calipers. so what you will need for the rears
-93 cobra/94-95 GT master cylinder
-maximum motorsports 3-2 port conversion kit for master cylinder
-axle assembly from a 94-98 V6 or GT (you just need the axles, calipers, rotors, backing plates, mounting flanges, anti moan brackets) if you are goin cobra rears, then you need different caliper mounting brackets and antimoan brackets and i believe the mounting flange.
-93 cobra e brake cables(93 moel only) motorsport ebrake cables for other years
-motorsport (stock) prop valve plug kit
-adjustable proportioning valve
-various thread adapters (ebay. i got some new lines that thread from the line port ontop of the axle into the sn95 soft lines.)
-94-95 caliper soft flex lines
-e brake lever modification (all installation instructions avalilable at www.fordracingparts.com )
- going with 5 lug? dont forget the spare tire cobra spare for cobra brakes, gt spare for gt brakes. if you are staying four lug, then you will have to scrounge around for t bird super coupe or 93 cobra axles rotors and stuff.
i think thats it for the rears the good thing about the gt brakes is that you can run 15s if you so desire hope this helps a little

if you want four lug i think you can get 93 cobra axles, and calipers and brackets. or check www.northracecars.com for their brake flanges they sell.
for the front get 88 mark7 calipers, as they have a bigger bore than the stock front calipers.

thanks for the input man.
ive actually been talking to some reps at stainless steel brake company...
they have a kit (sold by summit, however) for the 4 lug mustang that includes everything needed for rear disk on the 4 lug setup. its about 750 bucks, so i cant really pass it up.

i have moser axles on the car already and was trying to avoid ditching them, i think this will be the solution for me.

thanks for the help!

The 93 Cobra R is what all the SN95 Parts are and that is STOCK on a 93 Model, so I dont see why they should force you to run Modified.

thats what i figured too. it must be a local thing i guess. once you step over 12" rotors, you get the shaft.

Just an FYI, the SSBC kit from Summit is a good deal if your going to keep the 4 lug. Its on my car, however, I will be going to the 5 lug conversion sometime next year.......... Install on the SSBC kit is about 6 to 8 hours depending on your skill level, if you don't have any skill, take it to a shop.

systronic, let us know how it goes. I've been looking at the kit since I don't want to swap out to 5-lugs. i want to know if you feel or get a big diff in stopping. also you can upgrade the front disc to powerstop crossdrilled rotors, hawk pads, and t-bird 73mm cailpers.

As explained on the Corral you should nor due just the 73mm Calipers up front without upgrading the rear or it will actually be a downgrade in braking, I would also avoid the Crossdrilled trash out in the market.

yea i will be doing the rear first, then the front. i'll let you guys know how it all goes, but it wont be for a while. i always find myself having to take **** off to install more upgrades, so this time im waiting till i get EVERYTHING. i need to save up about 2 grand cash this time around... so it may take a few months.

i was looking toward slotted rotors, i hear they are much better than cross drilled.

as for the t-bird calipers, i'm assuming you mean the turbo-coupe??

i was just going to purchase some NEW 73mm calipers from advance/autozone for the lincolns. i hate to use junkyard parts on braking systems... makes me uneasy.

thanks for all the help guys! ill definately keep you posted.
