Thumbs down BBK Header FYI...

Hey Guys,

This is just an FYI on BBK Headers. Don't waste your money. After about three weeks of them being on my car the passenger side header's collector metal curled back making a nice big leak. I tightened up the bolts a little more to close the gap and after a few days the leak was back but this time I had no more threads on the bolt. Aside from this problem they also go blue and lose their chrome in about a month and a half. Lastly the metal is so thin that you can hear the valves through them when idling and most especially when you accellerate. Save your money and get a set of nice 14 gage headers and steer clear of headers that are 16 gage. I have now bought a nice new set of stainless steel headers to replace these BBK's Attached are pictures of my BBK Headers.

Hmmm. I have BBK headers and never had that problem. Maybe I am wrong but that kind of damage looks to be from things moving/shifting. I would look closely at the engine and transmission mount - Im almost willing to bet one of them is broken/damaged. Set the park brake HARD, go to first and give some gas/clutch while someone watches the engine from the side (hood up). Do the same in reverse. Any significant movement = bad mount(s).

I agree, it doesnt seem like a problem with the headers. I have a pair of third-hand equal lengths and they are working just fine for me and they still look nice other than the slight discoloration. that damage seems like it came from some external source.

Yeah from the looks of the first picture that looks like the X-pipe or H-pipe was not properly seated when you tightened the bolts up. Thats why the metal curled up and thats why the leak came back after you tightened them up again. Chrome always turns blue under constant high heat and cool down. Look at motorcyle exhausts, they "blue" under the heat, one of the characteristics of chrome, one of the downfalls of it.

Looks like installer error.... Most people, including me, have nothing but good things to say about BBK. my Lt's and H pipe are both used, but in great shape, with no sealing issues.... If it really is defective workmanship, send them back!

I checked my mounts two weeks ago when I had a rattling noise that would happen on deceleration, it turned out to be my drive shaft. I was missing one of the four bolts and the other three were backed out about halfway. My car tries to kill me on a daily basis. As for the headers, I am sure they were factory defects. I had to use different bolts than what they came with as one of the threaed holes on the colletor had weld in it that I had to drill out. I am just mad that I have to redo this project again. I am still pretty pastey as I have not been able to cruise around yet with the top down. The only part of me that is tan are my legs which is all that sticks out from under the car...
