oil pressure gauge going crazy

When I crank my 87 5.0 GT and let it idle the oil pressure gauge jumps up and down then when I'm going down the road the gauge goes down the more i give it gas then when I let up it goes back up. Is this normal? can anyone she some light on theis subject

My son's '88 has some of the same symptoms.

Turm the steering wheel and it varies....etc...

Although he has not replaced the sending unit yet, that is the remedy I suggest.

Make sure the connector going to the sending unit is tight.

Loose connector or bad sending units are common.

I would check the connector for being loose and see what happen. then maybe a new sending unit..

How is it running when doing this?
