Default Engine Model or Serial number lookup?

I just bought an engine from LongIslandMustangs, and I was told it was a 302. I wanted to know if it really is. The cylinder heads say 302, but I read about how sometimes people put 302 heads on 351's or 289's (I'd like to know the year too, because it's supposed to be "old")

the Model number or serial number (whatever it's called) is:

C80E-6015A

Another thing, the cylinder heads only have two valves per cylinder, but the pistons have four valve reliefs. Does that mean the heads are not the original heads? or that the pistons aren't the original pistons?

thanks.

C80E-6015-A = '68+ 302 cylinder head

To know what year exactly they are would require the date codes. They look something like 8F20, or 8C12, etc.

That's normal.

To everybody with the numbers and needing matches. You do know that a Ford dealer can tell you what it is right?

i dunno bout the ford dealer, they are a bunch of tools in this town and besides if the ford web site doesn't say anything about numbers why would a dealer care about a 40 year old car. i suppose it's worth a shot, for peace of mind....

Just trying to give some free advise lol. But it's your choice to ask the parts manager. But it might be that i know the guys around here in the dealer shops so i get more info. maybe. But when i need to find out about block numbers or heads i go to the dealer and let them run the numbers. But that is just me

C8OE-6015 A or B are both '68" 302 blocks. A boss block would have C9ZE/F and screw in frezze plugs, came out in '69'. Get a couple of good reference books or interchange books. A good one to have is the "How to rebuild your Small-Block Ford" Has all the casting numbers/date codes that everyone always has questions about.

Yup, a book with part numbers you can get at Barnes & Noble will work wonders if you're into part number hunting.

oh ok great that's great advice..... i see all those books to choose from and i have no idea which one to get. i've seen that rebuild book before i guess i'll get it. My biggest question is do other heads fit onto a 302 block making it a different engine?
