Im in the process of converting an '89 5-speed mustang to an AOD (I know) for my mother. I just purchased a stock shifter off of evilbay, and when I opened it, I noticed it has "P R N OD D 2 1" on the selector rather than the familiar "P R N OD D 1". Otherwise it looks exactly the same. It supposedly came from a 1990 mustang.

Does anybody know of a change Ford made with these shifters? Will this work with my AOD conversion?

It's from a 4 cyl. It *should* work, you just won't be able to pull it down to the "1" position.

What automatic transmission did Ford use in the four cylinder mustangs? My only concern at this point is that the shifter detents line up with the transmission detents.

The A4LE I believe. Everything *should* line up fine. The only thing is that 1st gear will be 2nd on the shifter.
