The return line was re-routed to the FMU. The vacuum line sensed the boost pressure and prevented the fuel being returned to the tank. That raised the fuel pressure in the fuel rail.
Usually you need to trace both the lines that were connected to the FMU back to where they intersect the factory lines. Using the proper tool disconnect those lines and reconnect the factory line to the fuel rail fitting.
