Default E-brake cables with rear disc brakes... HELP!

OK, so I thought it might be possible to figure out how to install these cables by just looking at the underside of the car... maybe not. I can see where each end of the cable goes, but I don't see the routing. I see a few holes where the cable can go through and they do the trick because it gets out of the way of the exhaust, but depending on which holes I get the cable through it's either too short or too long. I can either hook both ends and have quite a bit of slack, or I can hook up only one end of the cable. Has anyone done this and has pictures? I do have brakets that I bought from 50resto to keep the cables from touching the tires. Thanks for any help!

PS: One end has a clip thingy that I'm guessing hooks into the round hole at the rear brakes. Am I right? Oh and car is an 89 coupe with 5 lug conversion and, of course, rear disc brakes as mentioned.

did you get the motorsport e brake cables? or are you attempting to use the stock ones? there are three that they say are needed. one is the small cable that attatches to the equalizer from the lever (adjustable) and the other two are the ones that go from the equalizer to the rear calipers. im getting ready to do this swap but wont be doing it for a couple of weeks.

Check out Ford Racings Web Page for the install on the M2300K kit, you will see the Mods you need to make to your handbrake, plus you will be able to get the P/Ns for the correct cables you need.

ok cool! Thanks a lot guys!! I have only two cables. They seem to go to the braket that comes out where the handle is... through the bottom of the car. I got the cables from Latemodel Restoration. And the brakets that are supposed to hold the cables away from the wheels... I have no idea where they go. I'm going to check out the page shakerhood mentioned. I can't believe I didn't try that. I've looked at that thing a gazzillion times just because I'd love to upgrade my brakes with that kit. Thanks again!!!

How about it? It seems I find a freaking problem everytime I need to work on this car. I checked out the instructions on the M2300K kit and it says I need to weld part of the handle thing to the teeth that hold it up when you engage the brake. I have no welder nor have I ever welded before. I've seen it done countless times but no experience myself. Is there something else i can do to bypass this step and still make it functional. I have the cables hooked up but they don't engage the parking brake. I'm sorry for the complaits and the long messages.

Its really not that big a deal, you have to cut the spring on the handbrake and then slip the small cable in place and put it on the 3rd tooth and have it tack welded. Just get it ready and go to a local muffler shop and they should be able to tack it up really quick for you, then you will be able to adjust your cables afterwards.

You will be doing yourself a huge favor by doing it right the 1st time rather than try to rig it now only to have to tear into later on! While I had my Handle out, I went and bought a 98 Cobra Handle because I liked the Leather, so I just did the Mods to it and bolted it right in.

I'm taking it off tomorrow and it should be done tom. too. I have to go to the exhaust shop anyway! By the way, speaking abut brakes... I noticed today while under the car that whoever did the 5 lug conversion made a horrible mistake and hooked the brakets that hold the brake lines to the axle right under the bump stops for the rear axle. If I ever were to hit a big 'ol bump I'm going to be in a lot of trouble because my lines might brake. I'm about to check the M2300K kit you suggested and see what kind of brakes they use, but just in case, where are these brakets supposed to go? Again, these brakets hold the brake lines to the rear axle and, on mine they are to the end of the axle right between the axle and the shock absorbers... and right under the ruber bump stops. Thanks again!

what puzzles me about this predicament, is why would you still have to modify a stock e brake handle from a 98 cobra? those came with the exact same brake setup you have. especially since i believe that the e brake handle assembly is the same from 79-98. its seems strange to me.

It is the same exact brake handle as a Fox Handle except for the leather and that is why you have to modify it. If I remember right there was a recall on 94-98 cars for handbrake problems, with the modified handbrake and the adjustable center cable you are able to really dial your handbrake in and not have any problems with them dragging or hanging up.

thank you, but I had bought the cables from 50resto.com That's why I was trying to get help, so I could install them the right way. I'm working on some other things on the car, and I haven't had the time to take the console apart and get the handle welded. Once I'm ready to get it running it will have to be done, of course.

question, can you use the brake cables and handle from a 94-95 Mustang on a fox? I'm doing a 4-lug conversion from a 1993 Cobra and if I could use those cables and handle that would be great..LMK
