Default thermostat installation problem

Im reinstalling my thermostat on my new intake and am having a problem getting the thermostat seated right. When tightening, the thermostat does not want to seal completely and also i seem to run out of thread in the top bolt before the gasket is secure. Any one ever have this problem?

Are you sure the T-Stat is placed properly in there? Is it facing the right way? Are you sure you have the right one? (Compare old and new)

You might have it backwards. Should fit right in there with no issues.

yup, it should bolt rite up..no trouble! Cone side of Therms toward radiator.......but id check the intake and make sure you dont have any dirt or silicon in the thread.....clean it ...

then make sure the bolt isnt stripped...if i recall , the upper bold is slightly longer than the bottom.........

and all fails......get a smaller bolt.....

ok. so the problem was my intake manifold. The edelbrock performer. the upper thermostat housing bolt was running into the back of the intake preventing me from tightening it to spec. the stock intake has much deeper threads for the longer bolt while the edelbrock doesnt. i wound up grinding down the longer bolt about 5 or 6 threads and problem solved! n e one even run into this problem with the performer?

So the spring part of the thermstat goes inside the upper intake right?
