Default Will this rear end bolt up?`

I have a 79 Mustang and it doesn't have posi.....*tear tear.* I found a guy that is offering me his 4 bolt 8.8 POSI rear end with rear disc and 3.55 gears for really cheap. I have drum on my car now.

How do I determine if it'll fit 100% on my car with out making any modifications? He told me it'll fit my fox body, but you never know. It's out of his 88 T-Bird.

I know it's 1 1/2 inches linger, according to him, but I don't think that'll be a huge difference. In the end I'm swaping out the 4 speed to a 5 speed tremic and this 8.8 POSI rear. I'm also assuming I'll need a different size drive shaft.

Has anyone performed this conversion before?

The Thunderbird TurboCoupe 8.8 is a popular swap, as auto's came with 3.73's, and 5 speeds got 3.55's. The rear will bolt in fine, but I believe you will need to adapt some brake fittings, as well as use '84-'86 SVO or '93 Cobra rear e-brake cables. Do a search on www.foureyedpride.com, as this swap into early foxes has been covered many times in deatail over there.

I actually didn't end up buying that rear. I drove up last night and he had another rear. It's an 8.8 POSI drum brake out of a 91. The guy was telling me about how I would need to make a custome bracket and that I could just clip the ABS lines runnign to the caliper. I didn't want to deal with all that so I opted for the 91 rear. I walked away with it for $100. Is that a good deal?

If the trac-loc still works properly, Hell yeah that's a good deal! Even if you
have to rebuild the clutch packs, I still think that's a good deal.
