So I went to start my stang and something goes pop... no power... replaced the battery after checking the connectors... it starts.. but now... when the car is on, and idles (the idle also drops slightly lower than usual)... the lights dimm and the battery guage drops down below half way... if i rev it up the lights return to being bright and battery jumps up to normal levels... alternator going bad? What do you guys/gals think? By the way it never did that before up until this ...

Maybe the voltage regulator is going out. My original alternator did that, as does my new uh-ohzone replacement - though not as drasticly as what you describe.
