Default Need some clutch cable pics, please!

Hi all,

I'm preparing to install a manual 5 speed in my Crown Vic (see my CarDomain), but not very familiar with manual tranny setups. My experience is limited to a few rebuils and one build up slash wide ratio conversion of AODs.

I'd like to see some pics of the factory Mustang clutch cable setup if yall would be so kind. Or maybe they are hydraulic from the factory? I may still end up going hydraulic, but probably not. Just for the simple fact of being able to swap cables out if one broke.

Thanks!

I dont have a complete pic at hand but the setup is pretty simple.
Fox and SN95 Mustangs use a cable setup.

Attached is an image:

at the top you see the part that attaches to the firewall, from there it goes to the pedal assembly. The pedal uses a "D" shaped quadrant, the cable runs through the "hump" which gives the needed leverage to reduce pedal effort.

On the engine side, the cable connects directly to the clutch fork assembly inside the bellhousing, the fork then pushes the clutch with the throw out bearing.

It is that simple.

thanks Raptor!

So the quadrant is between the pedal and the firewall. Hmm, wonder how I can fit that in there.

The SN95 setup has the cable go to the inside of the bell housing, or does the fork protrude outside?

Also, is there any major mechanical difference between the SN95 and Fox chassis setups?

1) The quadrant is part of the pedal assembly
2) The cable goes INTO the bellhousing and there it attaches to the fork
3) There are almost no differences, at least nothing important.

Check this image of the Pedal assembly

As you can see the quadrant is on the lower right of the image, the cable slips through a slot at the top of the quadrant.

The cable should enter the firewall just level with the pedal rod.

I think you should be able to adapt the Mustang pedal assembly to your crown, get someone to lend you his mustang to take measurements.

Thanks again!

That really answeres the questions there! I wonder how that measures up to my factory pedal length. It'd be nice to swap in a factory setup. I like doing that more than fabricating just because replacing it when something breaks is easier.

Again, thanks for the help!
