Post Clutch for 89 Mustang GT

I am a new member here and was wondering what you guys think would be the best clutch to put in an 89 Mustang GT. Is a King Cobra a good choice?

Thanks
John

If your making under 300hp then the King will work but I could feel it slip with ease with 500hp and other have said the same with 350hp. Centerforce is just a better clutch disc and pressure plate.

I would like to hear how a quality clutch that works like it should(Not slip) will hinder you. 25 years in the business and this is the first time I have heard this. Teach Me.

Of course it would. It's more than you need on a stock setup, but would be a great building block for future mods. I just replaced my neighbor's king cobra clutch with a centerforce and he is sooo happy with it. His mods eventually outgrew the clutch's holding force, and started slipping.

I always build the foundation first...Auburn, Tremec, Centerforce, then motor. Then I'm not disappointed by broken drive train parts, and also have good parts to sell in an effort to offset costs.

Yeah, I'm not a manual expert at all, but a better clutch in no way is a hinderance on performance. Maybe on it's daily drivability characteristics (as far as soft engaugment and how easy it is to dissengauge), but not performance.

The Centerforce that I am using will hold 750hp and the Clutch is not stiff and no chatter holding the car on a hill. You have nothing listed about your car so if your stock you can use a king cobra but if you plan to modify spend the extra $100 for the Centerforce so you do not need to get under the car again.
