if you want an aluminum block why dont you go with a 4.6? get a used cobra engine from 96-01 cobras. i believe that mach ones have aluminum blocks too but it may be cast iron like the 03-04 cobras. making that much power with a 4.6 w blower combo shouldnt be a problem, but id say its safer to do so with a cast iron block.

Dart produces a 355-T6 aluminum alloy 302 block (unfinished) that retails for a minimum of about $3700. It weighs approximately 45 lbs. less than an iron 302 block. Is ~45 lbs. worth the extra $2500?

Now why the hellz are we thinking about LS1's in here? Don't get me wrong, I love any american V8 car. I'm really not a Ford-only fan, I just like cars overall... but imho a Ford car should have a Ford engine and the same with Chevy or Dodge. Like someone already said, I would feel safer knowing my 600hp is inside an iron block rather than an aluminum block. Yes, you get weight savings, but is it even worth it (moneywise and time/labor wise)? You can always use the aluminum block but be sure to get some heavy duty sleeves for it. Something else to think about is dropping a 351w in place of the 302 if you want displacement and torque.
