Ticking on 5th gear & Exhaust Popping My Vortech'd 93 GT is making a ticking noise when only on 5th gear at around 70mph which is driving me crazy. Well... the ticking noise sounds more like ringing rattle and it's coming from the passenger side. I am 100% certain that the car is not pinging. Dyno tuner confirms.
Thinking that the problem was a leaky header gasket, I replaced the bolts with Stage-8 locking bolts, drove the car around for a couple of days and then retightened the bolts 2 days later.
Unforetunately, my GT is still ticking on 5th though not as much. I've checked for exhaust leaks and all appears to be OK. Where else should i be checking? One thing to note: i'm using a different grade of motor oil. I've been using 20/50 since day one. When I changed to 10-30, that's when the ticking started.
Also... My Mustang backfires during deceleration. I don't know if these 2 problems are related but these problem started roughtly at the same time. Coincidence? I've checked all hoses all seems to be OK. If the Air Management Valves on the passenger side of the engine go bad, would it cause the engine to backfire?
Any help would be appreciated. |
