Default tach is making ticking noise.

The tach started making a ticking sound about a week ago. The tick is coming from the dash. As the revs go up, the ticks get faster. Outside of the car with hood up, you cant hear it, only when the doors and windows are closed is when I notice it. When I first heard it I thought my engine was going. After I had somone look at it they said my engine sounds great, and It definitely wasnt the cause of the ticking noise. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks Mike

Is your odometer or tripometer still working? The drive gears inside the istrument cluster have probably stripped and they're engaged enough to make the clicking noise but not enough to make the numbers move.

I've sure heard speedometers do it. And I've heard it from under the hood, like when a plug wire is arcing.

The reason I think its the tach is because when the car is stopped and you tap the throttle the ticking stays with the revs. I cant hear anything under the hood. Does anyone know if a 90lx Tach is electronic or cable driven? Thanks Mike
