Default '79 4 speed into a 5 speed???

Check out the sig....

To this day I have NOT slammed into any gear nor have I really gotten hard on the throttle right after I change gears. I'm soooo afraid the trans won't handle it. It's a 4 speed manual and I've been looking into a Tremic 5 speed. What all will I need to do the conversion? I'm assuming a bellhousing. Does it matter which one? Will I need a new drive axle. Am I missing anything??? Thanks guys!

Oh yeah...I'm also going to swap out the clutch to something better......

There is a guy selling a Tremec in the classifieds section. He works for a company that does Tremec conversions all day long. Send him a PM and he can hook you up. I think the name of the company is Kiesler and he post their logo in his avatar.

Yeah, I saw that one. He took it out of his Chevy conversion from his Mazda. If I go with that one I have to use his custome shifter. For 250, I think I should be able to find a used one that I could bolt right up. But I'm not sure.

If you are just looking to upgrade to a stock T5, you will need the tranny, bell, and shifter at minimum.

I would highly recomend replacing the adjustable cable set-up in the '79 with the later style cable and quadrant.

As for the clutch, if you are planning on an upgrade, you will need a 28oz flywheel that will accept the '86 and up 10.5" clutch and metric preassure plate bolts. You should be able to get the right flywheel from Ford Racing for a $100 or so. The bolts you can get from the dealer.

If you get a Tremec, you can use your existing bellhousing.
