valve spring shims, am i using too many?

I was told by trickfloe to change the valve springs on my gt-40 heads because of their cam I bought. I bought their kit ans it came with shims. Iv'e never done this before. They supplied a little metal bar to set the installed height of the spring. My problem is that I need more than one shim per spring in order to make it the right installed height. Is this normal? Is it okay to use 2 or three shims per valve?

You can and they usually even come in different thickness.
