Default rear end needs rebuilt, what would you do?

Hello folks,

My rearend has been noisy for some time, I'll probably need a new axle or two. My posi is also shot. As is, my rear end is bone stock. I am looking to have it rebuilt with 3:73s, new bearings, possibly axles, etc. My question is, besdies a TC Rear end swap, what are my options for disc brakes down the road? Also, if i decide to go 5 lug what are my options.

Would you go ahead and have the rear end rebuilt now or go another route? I''ll be pasying someone to do this because i can't do it myself. Assuming i don't need axles, the parts and labor are gonnas run me $800ish out the door. If i need new axles it'll be 350-400 more depending.

five lug options are 94-04 GT or Cobra rear discs.

four lug are the thunderbird, or 93 cobra rear brakes. i know that the 93 cobra axles are the same length as the 94-98 axles, so if you can find a rotor with four lugs and the same size hat, you can use the more widely available 94-04 gt calipers, axle brackets, and lines.

this seems like the perfect opportunity to do the five lug conversion anyway. for the front you can get rotors from an 88 or so lincoln mark VII if you are on a budget and cant do the front cobra or GT conversion now. if you should choose those rotors for the front, you will only be able to run 95 cobra Rs 94-97 cobra wheels, 94-98 16" GT wheels, or 99-04 V6 wheels, or 99-04 silver five spoke GTs with spacers.

i used 86 svo rotors 31 spline motorsport axles and ranger drums.also used the heavy duty truck traction lock on my 90 lx for the 5-lug swap.

u can also use 86-89 lincoln LSC rotors (uses same bearings) on front and ranger drums and 2, its either right or left axles i cant remember off a ranger, ranger use's two diff length axles. from side to side, but one side same as mustang, i have done this many times in the past, or for added insurance step up to moser makes a real nice 28 spline axle kit (or 31)for this, stock ford axles are so soft it kinda scary, LOL

thnaks for all the info but due to time contraints i had the stock rearend rebuilt still stock but with 3:73's to replace my 3:27s. I wanted to stay with a 4 lug setup for now so I'll consider some of your rear disc options.

screw the rear disc conversion the drums will stop fine theres extremly fast car with stock rear brakes screw the 5 lug conversion too if your looking for strength buy a good set of aftermarket 4 lug axles if you wana change splines it gets expensive as for now call summit racing and order all your parts from them it will save you money so all you have to do is pay for parts id order frp 3 73s a comlpete install kit and a traction lok rebuild kit its only like 50 bucks for the rebuild kit too bad you dont live in maryland i could do it wayy cheaper good luck
