Default 302 to a 351 swap

how much work is there involved in putting a 351 in my 88 mustang gt? i met this guy today that said he has one sitting at his house and he said he would sell it to me for $1000. it has 40,000 miles on it and its carbuerated. and if i would buy this what all is onvolved switching it over to fuel injected other than an upper snd lower intake and fuel injectors.

I'll assume you mean 351W. (There is also a 351C and 351M.)

Only if converting to mass air. Speed density will work fine so long as manifold vacuum isn't radical.

You'll need all the sensors, MAP, speed density, O2, coolant temp sensor, knock sensor. Thankfully all of those already exist in your car. All you really need to purchase is injectors big enough to supply the 351, fuel rails, and an intake manifold for that motor for an EFI application.

headers for 351w in a fox not cheap either ($420), u will need a fox bodied dual sump oil pan for 351w (different than 302) not cheap FRPP sells for i think ($175) with pickup screen and stuff needed.your 5.oL distributor wont work, u need a 95-96 351w TFI distributor. not sure if fuel rails will work from 5.0L. lower EFI intake is different, alot to think about. u be better off finding a 95-96 EFI truck 351w motor with all this crap on it already, u still need pan and headers to fit in fox though. also it wont fit under your hood u will need a cowl hood or scoop. would be killer when done though.

you don't need to spend $175 on a new sump. i have a windsor and i got my sump off a crown vic. at a junkyard for $20.

take a look at this page it tells you everything you need to know along with all the part numbers that you will need..... make sure that the motor is a 351w (winsor) if you get a 351c (cleveland ) some part are different and they are harder to find.......... you can tell if it is a 351c or a 351w by the valve covers a 351w has 6 bolts a 351c had 8

its not that expensive. new headers, dizzy, oil pan, and lower intake manifold. you can get all that for around 600$ brand new. if you go the used route, its even cheaper.
