hey fellas im new here and just finished my head gasket repair. ive got a few problem now. It runs really rich can see and smell it from exhaust and also when it gets warm it idles at 2k rpm . ran it and does run really good just these problems. Also when i did the gasket job i saw the egr was plugged up with gasket maker, so i cleaned it out could the egr be bad? the cel isnt poping up but ill check later. thanks again david
It might just need operating time for the computer to learn how to run the engine properly.
You could try scanning for codes.

well ive run it for 2 hrs(idles high off and on) today my wife drove it around the block didnt do it till she pulled in she says but i dunno. i found gas in the vac lines so im gonna replace the fpr and if that doesnt help im gonna do a vac test and see if vacs good. any other ideas for me and oh yea someone told me it could be the ect (engine coolent temp sensor?)
update ive replace the thermostat temp is down, replaced the fpr and the running rich is pretty much gone now ive got the idle problem still. it will idle fine till it gets warm. id hit the gas and it just hangs at 2k rpm and doesnt fall. I plugged the egr and it pretty much didnt do it till i shut it off then back on. Any ideas for this one. thanks guys im almost there car ran great took it for a ride and drove great.
Maybe the throttle cable is sticking? I'd suspect the IAC before the ECT. You can clean the IAC. If you use solvent to do this, separate the IAC valve from the IAC plunger-solenoid/motor, so as not to get any solvent into the electrical part of the IAC.

iac is new and also the ect is withing ohm range for the temp its at. so that being said is my egr causing the problems or do you think the tps is gone? i also tested that and seems withen range.
When I apply a vacuum to my EGR valve at idle, it doesn't really seem to raise the RPMs, it makes it idle rough though.

just an update; problem resolved. ended up being a bad air intake controll valve.
wich was weird cause it tested fine. looked like the rod was broken. so id like to say thanks for all your help. david
