Default Convertible motor mount question

I need to replace my mom's 91 LX vert motor mounts. I can only buy them from the Ford dealer and i was wondering what the difference is between the vert mounts and regular stang mounts ?

The 'vert mounts are a caged design that won't seperate if the mount breaks, and they also sit the engine 1/2 to 1 inch lower in the car.

You can get them at any parts store, your not just limited to the stealership.

I would highly recommend the convertible mounts. Over 500 hp and i haven't broken one yet. I believe they are also a few bucks cheaper...Ford logic!

Okay, we checked at a local auto parts store and they said they the only way they could get it would be through the dealership. i guess i can check around some more.

Okay so if i read right I can also throw the vert motor mounts in for my hatch without any issues or not?

Correct. The mounts directly interchange without needing any other changes whatsoever. What parts store did you go to? I would highly reccomend checking another place or two, because those mounts are pretty common and in stock just about anywhere. They ARE NOT a Ford dealer only item at all.

Oddly enough, my motor mount is broken as well. So this is all good information.

Is this rone to happen in Verts? Sould I replace them both just incase?

They just break with age. The ones I am changing are stock mounts so they are about 15 years old. If i were you I would go ahead and change both mounts since you are going to be down there. No need to be down there twice for the same job.

Are the convertible mounts any better or worse then the urethane's that cost double such as Prothane and Energy Suspension?

check out total restoration.com they have mounts. There are alot of companys out there who sell motor mounts for verts. I got a 92 and my mounts are fine but you can change the internals if you want. Best bet is to just get new ones.

Be careful buying the lower motor mounts if you have equal length shorties. youll need the stiff prothane ones to clear your fender wall.

Default Equal Length Shorties

Can anyone confirm that the equal length shorties will not clear with convertible motor mounts?

When I installed my BBK equal length headers, I had to replace my original 22 year old mounts for clearance because they were sagging. Installed a set of Energy Suspension urethane mounts and gained the necessary clearance. If the convertible mounts do lower the engine, the headers will not clear.
