Hey all how are you, canadian brother here, I got a good question for everybody, actually my baby wont pass emission, anyways, here the problem, the first time it went 2 years ago no problem passing the test, and now on the retest, it seems the hydrocarbons (HC's) are off the book, and the CO2 levels are out also but not much.
So what do you think, iam getting code 23 for the TPS sensor and code 84 for the EGR control circuit failure, this is the test with the car off!
also getting code 33 for canister or EGR valve control >> which one i dont know, but i know the EGR it self is working.
With the car running the only codes i get are 23 TPS
and 33 EGR same as above.
Can some one plz tell me where the EGR control circuit is?? on the EGR or the one of the 2 vacuum valves on the side wall, behind the strut tower ??
I replacing the O2 sensor, recommended by a friend? but am not sure
also off subject but where is the VSS vehicle speed sensor on a 87 mustang >>> is there on?? i dont think so. anyways code 29 on my baby???
Oh! my car --- 1987 mustang Mass air flow, and eldelbrock performer RPM package, cam and heads, shorty mac headers and other stuff.
That's what i was gonna say. My car has today, just joined the Illegal Mustang ranks with an off road h-pipe! I've already got a buddy that'll hook me up with inspection stickers. It's easier to do this. Hopefully you've got someone that'll help ya! Good luck
Does your car have catalytic convertors? If not or if they are bad or broken up, they can cause high HC and CO numbers. I think the EGR is designed to cut down on NOx (oxides of nitrogen) which is created at high combustion temps. The EGR allows exhaust to recirculate back into the combustion chamber to cool it off, which in turn reduces NOx. Maybe it is also supposed to reduce other emissions, but I'm not sure. Have you changed or checked your PCV valve, that might help a little.

Ive read to put in on test running about 250 degrees or hotter and your pass with flying colors because all the fuel will burn before it exists just turn your fuel pressure way down.If you cant bribe em.

I was in the Marine Corps and I wrote the emissions place and told them my car was out of state and they gave me a 2 year pass without any checkup on my status. You can try that and that will buy you some time.

Let me guess Air Care take another car's life way? Did you have to pay another $24 to have someone tell you you can't drive your car?
Emission testing is very indepth up here. There's the idle, high idle, driving at 40Kph and then a nother idle test. Plus, the gas cap sealing test and the proper emission equipment test. It's all cap that you have to pay for or you don't get insurance. The whole thing can take about 10-20 min depending on who the jerk testing you is.

Originally posted by Vortex ive heard some tricks are drop your timing to like 8 and use 87 octane.
we dont have emissions here in FL. so im not much help.
If you do this your exhaust manifold will get very hot!! My guess is to see if the cats are burned out.
About a cup full of Methal Hydrate in a tank of 94 octane work the best(then put the rest of the bottle of Meth. in after the emisions test and have some fun. You'll never have more power out of that engine unless you do some mods. )

I PASSED EMISSIONS! I just wanted to say that. The tester wanted to check out my motor cause he had a 94. He was pretty blown away. Tips on passing aircare? This is what I did.
-New Sparkplugs are a good thing!
-Air Filter needs to be clean!
-Cap and Rotor should be cleaned out of all carbon deposits.
-Turn back the timing to about 8 degrees.
-Methal Hydrate...gorgeous clean gas, add 2 litres to every tank.
-Make sure the right wires go to the right O2 sensors...I switched mine when I put my new motor in. Boy did that mess things up.
-clean MAF with rubbing alcohol and q-tips
-clean IAC with carb cleaner
-turn down the fuel pressure
-go for a 30 minute drive to really heat up your cats...high revs are good too!
-pray
-cross your fingers
-pass
-smile
