Talking 514 on a Foxbody?

I got a friend that will sell me his 514. I was wondering...Will this monster fit my fox? WIll the suspension handel the wight of the engine? WIll i need a new trans? Will the stock hood fit? The engine is newit was never installed in a car he has had it for about 6 months now and needs some cash. What do you think? Good idea? I currenty got a 5.0 with slight mods in it.Will a 514 make a good street strip engine? I dont care about emissions or MPG .

it's hard to hide that much motor so the whole sleeper thing is out of the question.

You just need a 460 swap kit and it'll be done. Most major aftermarket suppliers carry them, and you'll need at least a 4 inch cowl for clearance. 4 inch hoods are no indicator of power nowadays, how many have you seen on stock cars? I see plenty so a cowl hood doesn't scream anything more than a hood. That engine will be a tight fit but will fit. Since you're in Texas, contact Tommie Vaughn Motorsports, I think they have these kits and can tell you more.

I think you can get by with as little as 2" hood.

The link I posted above....there is a K-member drop kit available:

Check out the before and after pics.

It is more than doable -- Ive done a 521 in an 84 before -- bought the kit from PAW -- great kit worked beautifully, pretty cheap all in all and the car is an EXCELLENT daily driver - torque anyone?!

Anyway -- 460 swap kit can be used or if you are handy with a welder make your own mounts and motor plates.

Not hard to do -- I got away with a 2" cowl hood as mentioned by foxchassis. My buddy bought the car from me and he hasnt had an issue yet.

I bet if you did do a K member drop setup and some drop mounts you could get away with it, granted with craptastically low ground clearance, but meh -- it probably would work. However I know first hand with a mig and some time you can make your own mounts and motor plates and throw that sucker in with a built toploader and no issues.

Regards,
Gered

Me and my brother put a small block chevy in his 86 coupe. then we changed it out and put a bbc 509 with a 400 turbo. then later changed to a Glide. so yes it can be done. STRONGLY recommend getting a k-member kit and better springs. And a bigger hood. I had to order a 7inch hood to clear the motor in it.

Pertaining to the original post, I say go for it. Maybe even find a shell and make a sick drag car, tell your wife it won't fit in your car but it wil fit in a notch so you need to have 4 mustangs.
