Default one header glowing

Hey guys I have a 90 5.0 installed in my ranger. The passenger side header glows cherry hot while the driver side does not. The timing is at 12deg base. fuel pressure is good. I had an exhaust leak so I fixed it and now my header glows. I have new cats and 2.5 in dueal exhaust. the computer is not givivg any codes. would the o2 sensor on that side cause this or what elce would you suggest? thanks

Hard to say.. Check for obvious stuff like vacum leaks or anything different one side compared to the other.. I would try to get my hands on an inferead temp gauge so you can get a reading on the real difference from one side to the other. At least you can see how significant the difference is

There is an old school method of checking for intake leaks... thats to spray some Ether (Starting fluid) around the areas of possible leaks and see if the idle picks up a bit.

Which intak manifold do you have? Start looking at the Runner to base exchange for an leak gasket. If its only on one cylinder It could make the difference.

Is the 5.0 EFI system Sequential Port or batch firs system. If its sequential port and recognizes different banks... then yes the O2 sensor could be the culprit, but I am just learning the 5.0. Got the S197 down, but I cut my teeth on GM's TPI... just trying to transfer that knowledge over to my new love... Mustangs.

Though, seriously If someone could tell me if its a Sequential Port or Batch Fire and if it Recognizes Bank 1 and Bank 2... I could tell you a few more options to look at.

I am using the bbk ssi intake. This application is sequential port injection. I have tried the ether trick but I did not find anything wrong. I dont understand why it would all start after i fixed my exhaust leak....

Maybe the converter on that side is plugged. Do you have a crossover pipe? A lean condition will cause heat. Is it the whole header? Maybe you could watch it as it heats up, and see which area starts to glow first.
I'd check the plugs on both sides, and look for any discrepincies.
Also, double check the firing order and the injector order. Might the head gasket on that side be on backwards- i.e. a plugged water passage?
You could also try switching the O2s from side to side.

Well, if its SFI... then does it recognize both banks?

I agree with Mengreens suggestions as your next steps. good luck

Well I drove it today and my check engine light came on. I got code 33 and 41. Code 33 is for my egr valve and 41 is right bank lean. Do you think that if the egr valve is stuck open that would make the left side lean. My engine light has never came on before so I am thinking these are somehow related.

Read the plugs. Lean definitely causes heat. Does the exhaust smell lean?

Well, a Cat being plugged isn't going to make you lean. You could possibly have a stuck injector. This goes back to reading the plugs.

Have you switched the Oxygen sensors from one side to the other yet?
