Exclamation i have super bad missing problem with my 1988 Mustang GT

i have an 88 gt that i converted to mass air. american thunder and off road x pipe. i also put on a ram air kit. new plugs and wires with rotor cap and button and ignition coil. the problem is it isnt idleing right and it is missing fairly badly and it doesnt have and exhaust leak but you can smell it real bad too and i cant come up with what is wrong with it. i think the timing is off a little but i havent used a light yet and i could use some imput please.

check IAC and TPS both simple fixes theres a thread on here about testing the tps but if that doesnt work try pulling the the iac off and spraying it down good with some carb cleaner or somethign simpler and put it back on

I had almost this exact problem, although I figured it out with the help of friends from a diesel site I belong to. It turned out to be the magnetic pickup in the distributor. You have to remove and dissassemble the distributor to get to it.

check for correct firing order on the plugs and wires in reference to the cap. the rich smell is most likely from not having cats. the EECIV richness as i like to call it.

If the car ran fine before you did the modification, I'm going to bet that you have a plug wire crossed. Even with all the new goodies you've installed, it shouldn't have a miss.
