Does anyone have any ideas on what would cause a check engine light to come on randomly on a 1995 Mustang GT. Well, I guess it is not random since it comes on for a reason, but it is never at the same time. Sometimes, it will never come on in a 10 miles or more drive. Sometimes it comes on, then goes off. Sometimes, it will stay on, then go off for like 20 seconds, then come back on again. I cannot figure out why.
I have taken it to get the codes pulled, but for some reason, the gadget could not get the codes. Does anyone have any ideas?
Running lean or rich maybe? I guess I could pull the spark plugs and check that. Any help is appreciated.
P.S. It doesn't seem to hinder performance much, it is just obnoxious.

You have an o/r mid-pipe, do you have MIL eliminators? Sometime you can get by without them and not trigger a CEL, but most of the time you will need them or have to disable the rear O2 sensors with a tuner/chip.

It is a 5.0 -- the only O2 sensors are before the cats, so the readings should not be affected.

Is your neutral switch hooked up and working? If not, that'll cause it to not throw KOERs.

It's on the back of the heads - it runs between the two heads.
Also, how old are the O2s?

I would get new O2's The Thermactor rarely gets clogged on one side only Or even check your wiring on the one side it could be grounding out when you hit bumps
Yep, I'd say it's time for some new ones. Give the car a tuneup (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and air filter) before you do them, too.
Even with just the O2s, you should notice a difference in performance.
