I am looking to buy a set of Maximum Motorsports caster/camber plates. They list sets for '79-89 and '90-93 stating that the top of the strut changed. Now that I have done my 5-lug conversion, I am unsure of which set I need. My stock spindles measured 1" at the strut, while my '98 5-lug spindles measure .75". To hold things together, I made .125" shims from steel plate, putting them on each side of the spindle. I think in '87 they changed the spindle when they went to the 11" rotors and the spindle connection changed at that time, am I correct? If so, can I order the '79-89 c/c plates to use with my '85 style struts and when I upgrade my struts and springs (soon I hope), I can order them for a '87-89? Also, I noticed that the shock and strut packages (Bilsteins) that Maximum Motorsports advertizes on their website lists years as '87-04. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I would ask them just to make sure, but I think the difference in the plates from 89 to 90 was due to Ford changing the shock tower a little bit. I am doing SN95 spindles right now too, with MM c/c plates (79-89 is what I have sitting here). I do not have it together yet though, actually I have not even started. If you do decide to give them a call, let me know what the deal is, in case I have to exchange these c/c plates.

I'm just worried that I will order these $200 c/c plates and then need a different year strut and would not fit my c/c plates. To temporarily hold things together, I had to make spacers to attatch my original struts to the spindles. They are the grey pieces in the photo. I don't want to have to use these after I upgrade my struts if I don't have to.
Those spacers are on the ball joint are they not? If so, change your ball joints and instead of putting in the ones for your car, put the ones in for 94-95 mustangs, they are taller, and eliminate the spacers. This is what I have been told to do when I put on my sn95 spindles by a guy who has done it a few times now.

Not the ball-joint, where the spindle attatches in the saddle on the strut with the two 5/8" bolts. There are two 1/8" plates on each side sandwiched between the strut and the spindle.
oh ok I see them now, but unfortunately I have never even heard of people having to do that before. Normally all I see is people putting spacers in where the ball joint is.

Ok, here's an update. I ordered the set for the '79-89 and installed them. Everything fits fine. I haven't taken it for alignment yet, but to get it close, I used a magnetic angle finder. I set the camber and caster to as near equal on each side as possible. Maybe my angle finder is way off or is it common for the settings to be different from side to side? Also, I can't seem to get the camber to less than about 1 degree positive. I've had the car checked for straightness, although I don't know how good of a job they did and I have measured it the best I could with a tape measure and everything was within less than a 1/16". One other thing, my left front wheel seems to stick out of the wheel well farther than the other side. Its like I have one control arm longer than the other. Any thoughts on this. Thanks.
