Default Problems w/ setting ignition timing

I went to set my ignition timing and here is what happened:

-I took out the spout and set timing to 14 degrees
-tightened the bolt and put the spout back in
-then i checked thr timing afterwards and it jumps to 20

-this happens everytime- but it doesn't ping so I figure it really isn't at 20 degrees...i figured i'd def. get some pre-detonation at 20!!!!

What is going on?- is it at 14 or 20?....anybody have similar problems or is this normal

please help

Check the timing again with the spout out. With the spout in the computer can advance the timing.

That is normal. I recently learned how to change the timing and was wondering what the heck was going on.
