Default 306 Tuning Problems caused by Granatelli Mass air flow meter!

Ever since I got my car together I have had a big problem with tuning it. It wouldnt run in any way properly unless I made it super rich to the point that your eyes would burn if you were standing next to it. I tried everything to correct it. Looked for vacuum leaks. Even plugged up the entire intake to make sure it wasnt the brake booster or anything and sprayed the whole thing and nothing happened. I checked the timing multiple times, check the firing order, tore down the top end 3 TIMES to readjust the valves because I thought maybe they were too tight. I tried EVERYTHING. Turns out all it was was this piece of crap Granatelli MAF that doesnt work properly. My friend happened to have a Pro-M MAF in his garage calibrated for 30# injectors, I threw that on and just like magic all the problems were gone. This really pisses me off that a part that cost me $230 never even worked once while it was on the car.

You know ive had the same problems, and forever i blamed the mass air. And ive posted on here awhile back if anyones ever had problems with the granatelli mass air and got no response. I finally put in an aftermarket chip and it solved alot of the problems but i still have a surging idle from time to time although the chip helped alot. I too searched for vacuum leaks, had it apart several times, messed with timing, even went as far as pulling my F cam out to swap to an E cam. My car runs rich too but not to the extreme of smelling gas. But seeing how im running a small paxton on it, running alittle rich didnt bother me so much. So tell me, i also have 30lb injectors, if i were to go with a C an L, which size do i need. or should i just tell em to calibrate it for the 30lb injectors?

C&L just uses different size sample tubes to tune for injector sizes.

Yeah I know c&l uses the same housing no matter what, they just change the sample tube inside depending on the injector size. I cant give you any input on them either, I dont know anyone who has one. But thank god my car is running properly now. I hope I can get granatelli to give me some sort of refund or exchange for another part they make or something because Im pretty pissed that I spent $230 on a part that doesnt even work.

Im Glad you found your problem with the help of AFM.
I was all over that maf as soon as i saw it in your list of mods. im glad to be of service.
different company use different ways to fool the CPU, some calibrate by voltage, others try to trick cpu.

Yeah. This site is great. I just didnt think it would be the MAF cuz its brand new and how could it be dirty if its only been used on this car? Everyone is so helpful on here. I definitely wouldnt recomend buying a granatelli MAF, what a PITA is was to figure out that it was causing all this trouble.

I didn't really think it was dirty, but i did suspect it.
I new you
would check it out because you tried evrthing else. Good thing
your buddy had the pro M.....
the mass air meter, distributer, and coil are usually the first things to check, with every engine build. I went through a similar problem with detonation on my car, and we
started with the brand NEW MSD distributer, believe it or not it wont
run good with it installed. i put the stock distributer back in. With a new msd blaster coil, the car runs good. The fuel pressure is at 43.5 lb. My problem wasn't fixed until i changed the coil. I'm still running the stock distributer, it will still ping with the MSD distributer installed.
Now It has good throttle response, and a nice power band.
It took about a week to get it right.

Maybe they sent you the wrong MAF - I mean one with the wrong calibration.

I dont know. The box says its for 30#. But I emailed them and Im waiting for a response. Maybe they will exchange it for me but if they do and it still doesnt work then they better give me some sort of refund or something cuz thats BS to sell something for over $200 that doesnt even work.
