Default I need help on choosing and alternator for a 1990 5.0 convertible

I can get a good deal on a 75 amp alternator but am wondering if I am going to need a bigger one like 130 amp from a 94-95 and do a wire splice. I plan on putting some subs in like two 10's

Ya for any sort of stereo upgrades you should also upgrade the stock alternator to something like a 130 amp 3G or 6G unit.

Your headlights will probably flicker pretty bad, the stock alternators are barely enough to handle the stock electronics in the car.

If you have an alternator shop near by, see if they can upgrade your stock unit. The starter/alternator shop around the corner from me was able to rebuild my stock unit to 100 amps. It cost about the same as a 130 amp unit but you keep the stock look and you don't have to modify anything.

You can use the 75 if you buy a farad capacitor for your amp power wire. They even sell those at walmart now....but.......might be about the same or cheaper for the better alternator. You still might get the dimming headlights without the cap though.

I hear that the 6G will go in without modifying the bracket.
The factory ones suck. They don't have enough capacity, and the connections are prone to catching fire.

That is correct, not real major modifications. Only need to cut one of the connectors off and put 2 of the 3 wires in the connector to the single post and run a new 8 or better gauge wire to carry the new load.
