I recently stumbled upon the fact that in my state, CT, cars 20 and older dont need emission checking whereas I thought it was pre-1978 or something like that. Anyway, I was thinking of picking up a Fox and dropping in a 351 Cleveland. But my question is how hard will the electrical aspect of this be? Can I just rip out the whole ECU? Would it be easier to completely rewire the ignition system, I would probably use a Mallory Unilite distributor. What do you guys know about converting to carb?

There are some exemptions to the program, particularly ... many older vehicles ... :
A motor vehicle twenty five-years old or older, (as of 1/1/07, model years 1983 and older).
And a Cleveland makes tons of power, cheap? Where have you been in the last, say, 15 years. The aftermarket is literaly flooded with Windsor parts. Windsors make tons of power, cheap. Cheaper than Clevelands. Try finding headers for a Cleveland in a Fox.....Kooks makes a set for about $750.
Buy a header kti and fab 'em yourself. You can still make over 500 hp with a Cleve with stock heads no problem. Im a Cleveland guy though.

the cleveland has a wider stance then the windsor.so it might not fit but i realy dont know.never seen it done.i would go with a windsor to stay away from cutting the frontend up.
i think a cleavland would be cool. yes it will fit but you will have to run at least 3 inch hood and or make custom motor mounts to drop the motor. we ran one in a 79 and the ditro sat up about an inch a half higher then the fenders.
Yes you can get alot of power out of a cleveland but its a heavy mother and the parts are not cheap.
Some form of windsor family engine is best really. but im all for something different.
Our shop race car was a 87 with a 460 held in with plates. more or less had to pull the clip off to do any work.
Dzus faters are a god send.

there was a magazine article about a year ago about some guy in Tampa, who had a vert. with a 351 in it. i still have the article somewhere. I have a cleve., figured i would get the 302 running right work out all the kinks and drop in the cleve. we want them because not everyone has one!

Thats another factor for me. Theres a younger kid that goes to the local Saturday night cruise who has a 351C in a Capri, its stock thoguh and I think he bought it already converted, but hes going ot a 429. I dont know if he already did it, I met him once last year in about July. The cruise starts up again this Saturday and if it rains enough tomarrow, I wont have work Saturday and will go, and im hoping hes there.

Hmmm, maybe a Clevor would fit better. Maybe a 347? With the rpms I plan on, Im gonna need a forged crank anyway.
