Question MAF Conversion on a 88 CONVERTIBLE

Need some help to understand something. I am calling around to quote an ECU for a 89' to perform the MAF conversion on my 88' SD. I'm thinking I should just buy this off e-bay vs peice'n this together.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=290103971194

My question is: Why is it that when I call the local parts stores for a quote on an ECU, they are asking me if the "89" is Convertible?

I do have a convertible but I didn't think this had anything to do with the ECU.

Will this coversion kit work on my convertible and do I follow the same coversion steps I found in the forum search?

the top should have nothing to do with your computer. i think alot of reasons that parts stores like the zone ask if its a convertable or coupe is because lots of other parts like springs, interior panels, and motor mounts are different between the two, and the question is just standard procedure so the parts guys will screw up less. yes the kits usually always save you money, but thats if you can afford the 1 lump sum.

Thanks Man! I didn't think the vert had anything to do with the computer, just threw me a curve ball when they asked. (yeah, it was the zone)
I threw down the cash and bought the entire kit........

I bought just the wiring harness from Brian (the eBay seller). I wanted a C&L meter 76, new MASS Air Sensor (brand new from Advance Auto, lifetime warranty) and a computer with a warranty from Advance. I spent about $600 instead of $350, but upgraded the Meter and have a lifetime warranty on the sensor. It just seemed like the best long term investment.

On my 86 I had to hook 2 additional wires in. One goes under the drivers seat the other to one of the wires going to the speedo sensor on the tranny.

The one to the dr seat was about a foot too short, I had to splice some wire in.

The one to the speedo was a pain and according to instructions I found on the Net, my wire wasn't where it was supposed to be. I had to pull the carpet back with the Dr seat out all the way back to the tranny hump, run the wire through the grommet and into the harness under the car.

It all works though.

Brian was helpful with any questions. Just beware of the shop he gets the wiring harness from though. (Mass-Air.com) I was having some problems, called their tech support and they said it needed their "Air Adjuster" I went ahead and ordered it for $179.95, when I opened the box there were all kinds of warnings and disclamers that you could blow up your engine by using this product. I returned it! It took over a month for them to credit my VISA too.
