I have 15 X 7 Welds... I know yours are 16's but they're both 7 wide. I have 195's on mine and that's about the limit for a 7 inch wide wheel. They actually give decent handling, light years better than the skinnies/ 3 1/2 inch wide, and they're a lot lighter weight than a 225 or 235.

Go to Tirerack.com, check the sizes you want, when you see a tire and size you want look at the SPECS, it will list the "Rim Width Range" that is acceptable.

Example a Continental Vanco-8 195/65 RR16 is good on a rims from 5.5-6" so you have to go to a 215/65 for that tire. If the profile is different, you might be able to get a smaller tire.

Dunlop SP Sport 3000A DSST 195/55 HR16 Rim range 5.5-7"

Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD07 175/55 ZR16 Rim range 5-6"

Are you going for small tires because of cost?

If not I wouldn't recommend anything smaller than 215's, I have 195's on my Honda and they handle okay but I wouldn't put them on my Mustang.
