Unhappy 1990 5.0 Sudden loss of oil pressure, and a little noise

I was drivin my car a little hard tonite, not any worse than usual, and as I was lettin off of it, I heard a light tickin sound, thinking a loose header bolt or something, I slowed down to listen and it got louder, so I look at the oil pressure gauge, and it says flat zero, so I shut her down..

I am thinking oil pump, or possible oil pump driveshaft.. Is there any other thing that could be the problem. ??

Looks like I'll be spendin a good part of tomorrow under the stang.. Is there anything else I should look at in the bottom of the motor while I have the pan off?

P.S. it's a sad sad sight to see the stang on the back of a tow truck...

The ticking was probably lifter noise from lack of oil pressure. I'd guess you are right in thinking pump or drive shaft. Since you shut down right away, hopefully no damage was done. You could most likely pull the distributor and shine a light down the hole to see of the drive shaft is still in place, or has broken and fallen into the pan.

Let us know what you find.

Ok, I decided that since she ran with no oil pressure, all-be-it extremely briefly, I would take the long road, and change the pump- if not for anything else, but to inspect the bottom end, ya know bearings and whatnot.. Anyhoo, this is a bit more of a task than I was expecting(pain in the ***), still do-able though. Mainly just some difficult bolts, and the starter was a bit tough to get to, b/c of the headers. I am now to the point of actually gettin the pan off, got all the bolts out, but she is stuck...!! So I am callin it a night on it, and will pick it back up first thing tomorrow.

So, cross you fingers and wish me luck, that no major damage was done to 'er..
